How Did Black Jack Die In Outlander

Tobias Menzies (Frank Randall / Jonathan 'Black Jack' Randall) Before he played Prince Philip on season 3 of The Crown, Tobias Menzies played dual roles on Outlander: Frank, Claire's history professor first husband, and Black Jack Randall, a villainous 18th-century British soldier with a Jamie Fraser obsession.

  1. Not only did his sadistic soldier Black Jack Randall die in the season-three premiere, but in Sunday's episode, 'All Debts Paid,' his modern man Frank Randall also died, albeit 200 years later.
  2. Jack Burns is a child actor from Scotland. — The young actor made appearances in the British.

Avoiding the inevitable fate of characters from the past — even characters you despise — is tricky to do when time travel is involved. Spoilers for the Season 3 premiere of Outlander follow. With Frank Randall being well-versed in his family's history, Claire knew that Captain Black Jack Randall was supposed to die during the Battle of Culloden. However, her being from the future doesn't always give her all the facts, since she also thought that Jamie had died in that battle and discovered in the Season 2 finale that her assumption was (mind the pun) dead wrong. But when it comes to Jonathan Randall, the history books were right since, Jamie kills Black Jack Randall on the battlefield in the Season 3 premiere of Outlander, defeating his foe for the final time.

Even without reading the third book of the Outlander series, Voyager, viewers should have known the man lying on top of Jamie in the beginning of 'The Battle Joined' is Black Jack Randall. Because even in death, Randall is unsettlingly and poetically, connected to Jamie. So it's only fitting that Jamie is not only responsible for Black Jack's death, but that Jamie is still with him as he fights for his own life. And if you have any concerns that, like Jamie, Black Jack survives, there's no need. After tormenting Jamie and Claire for two seasons, Black Jack Randall is truly dead on Outlander. Hoorah! There's no denying that this sadist has had it coming for a long while.

Black Jack In Outlander

Black Jack nearly kills Jamie during the battle, but the Scotsman is able to deliver the fatal blow to the man who viciously whipped and raped him — getting at least some justice. Even their final collapse on one another on the battlefield is reminiscent of the abuses Randall perpetrated on Jamie. But Black Jack will not be able to hurt Jamie or Claire ever again, as history predicted.

The only downside to Black Jack Randall dying on Outlander is the loss of Tobias Menzies being able to so skillfully portray this twisted character. Yet, Menzies time on Outlander isn't over yet with Frank being alive in Claire's timeline. Frank's fate is unfortunately doomed like his ancestor's, but viewers will have to adjust to seeing the kinder, gentler Randall again in Season 3 — at least for a little while.

What makes for good television on any broadcast network is a strong beginning with a clear villain who, in the end, dies and the man and woman live happily ever after. Obviously, 'Outlander' is not on a broadcast television network; it's on Starz.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Episode 15, titled 'Wentworth Prison,' featured some of the most nauseating, hard-to-watch moments on television. This brings up memories of 'The Shield's' greatest scenes. But apparently, this episode has surpassed that legacy, with much anticipation by starving audiences.

It seems as though Black Jack Randall saved Jamie from the noose in a weird twist of fate, only to be the pawn he unknowingly wishes to use against Claire later on. He did not save MacQuarrie, who was hanged along with a whole mess of other men.

Randall has reached the peak of his sinister sexual stake into Jamie's life. He has become obsessed with breaking Jamie to the point of physical and emotional derailment. Randall had taken him into the secluded cell where torture was about to begin. There was a moment when Randall asked Jamie if he awoke in the middle of the night from nightmares that featured him as the lead character. Jamie, who is still the strong highland warrior, countered, though, and told him it was he himself who saw Jamie's face every night, which took Randall by surprise and even infuriated him.

There was a scene where Randall had Jamie's left hand smashed with a large hammer, a scene which played out in graphic detail to the viewers. Jamie's smashed hand, with the bone exposed, seemed to be enough to force anyone normal person to faint. He was also nearly choked to death by Randall's servant Marley -- Randall prevented Marley from finishing Jamie off.

When Jamie's hand was smashed, Claire had been wandering around the prison covertly, trying to locate his cell. The scream Jamie let out after the smash is what led her to him. During a brief moment of Randall being gone, she entered the cell to save him. But it was futile, and when he returned, she fought him in a truly inspiring scene. But Randall got the upper-hand on her and when she was on the verge of death, Jamie agreed to become Randall's sexual submissive in return for her safety.

Randall agreed to this, but Jamie was forced to submit to a kiss to prove he was telling the truth. Jamie agreed and Randall nailed his battered hand to the table while they did the deed in front of Claire.

Randall is satisfied with the deal and he escorts Claire out, but not before she reveals to him the date of his death, which sends him on an emotional roller coaster. He wafted her through an escape hatch that landed her on the pile of hanged dead men, which included the not yet rotten MacQuarrie.

Claire reconvenes with Murtaugh and the crew and they plan another rescue effort; he reveals to her that they can indeed save Jamie.

Geeks of Doom reports that there will be a hiatus this week, then the season finale is expected to air on May 30.
